Welcome back to returning families and welcome to new families!  I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer! I am very excited to get to know you and your children better. Grade 3 will be a busy year, filled with fun and learning!  I can’t wait to get started!

I have a few things I would like to share with you:

I believe reading every night at home to be very important and beneficial.  I ask that students read at home every night for at least 20 minutes.  In the past I also sometimes have assigned Home Reading activity sheets to be completed at home.  I am currently undecided as to whether or not I will be using them this year.

I will be assigning Cursive Writing practice sheets to be completed at home.

As far as other homework that may be assigned…
I anticipate that it will consist mostly of work that was unfinished during class time.  Please know that I will always try to provide students with class time to get their work done.  Other homework will involve gathering materials for projects, practicing songs for the Grandparents' Tea, memorizing our class' Speech Arts selection, and practicing for our school's Fine Arts Assembly.

Some of the Art activities I have planned can be a little messy.  We will have opportunities to paint, use chalk pastels, etc.  As a parent of a child who attended a Catholic elementary school, I understand the stress parents feel when their children come home “wearing their art" on their uniforms.  I, therefore, recommend that your child have an art smock that can be kept at school.  This can be one that is purchased from a store or an old shirt that is baggy enough to fit over your child’s uniform.

As of right now, we are scheduled to have P.E. first thing in the morning on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  To save time, I ask that students come to school dressed in their P.E. strips on these three days.  Students also have PE on Fridays with Mrs. Fraser.  Please have your child wear their PE strips under their uniforms on this day to make changing into them easy and quick.  We are still in the process of finalizing timetables and so I will let you know if our PE schedule changes.

Also....Please send your child with a pair of runners that can stay at school.

I look forward to working together to make this school year a successful one!
